Weekend of scrapping

I spent this weekend much as the others, housework and hockey practice. I did however find time to get some much needed scrapbook time in. 16 pages, yes 16! Granted simple and sans journaling but that is my style. I scrapped school portraits and a few other sports pages. More importantly, I caught up. Now I can get back to scrapping what I love. I am looking forward to the challenge of using up 8 years worth of stash so I can pick up some newer supplies. Feels good to be back in action!

Life snapshots - quickly.

I have been on a scrapping frenzy. I am not the type of scrapper to do all my pages chronologically. I find that restriction boring and with too much pressure. I scrap what makes me happy. That being said I do have 6 books that I do in order. The first three are books that represent each child age 0-5. An expanded baby album so to speak. Emma and Roberts are each done, and now that Ryan turns 5 next week, he only has a handful of pages left to complete. I also have a set of 3 8x8 albums which represents Birthdays, Christmas & Halloween. I have a page for each year since Emma was born. The birthday album is my favorite as it starts with one baby and has expanded through the years. I try to include the cakes in each year as well. I still will complete 12x12 pages eventually for each individual birthday - but only when I find the perfect papers. I enjoy having life events in three simple albums and I am leaning towards getting a few more of these albums, if I can find similar styles, and adding sports, back to school and summer vacations. These pages are quick and easy to do and have helped me to find my scrapping groove again.

Slowly but surely I am getting all the things ready that I need to get some serious pages done tonight. Photos are all printed off, supplies have all been carefully purchased, scrapbook space is clean and organized and most importantly movie has been chosen to keep kids occupied!

The latest issue of Canadian Scrapbooker has given a ton of inspiring ideas. Tonight I attempt Christmas pages, fall pages and of course - hockey!! So excited!! Hoping to post some photos in the upcoming week.

I admit it, I lost my mojo. I have still been scrapping for the past few years, but mostly at crops to socialize and raise money for the kids school. Nothing inspiring, nothing new. Old paper and supplies, using up my stash. Well, things are going to change this year. A good friend started selling CTMH and I found these stamps that I just had to have. I will be getting them sometime this week and I hope it will give me the kick I need to get my mojo back and give me the inspiration to create some me time - really just for me.

Woohoo! My laptop is back from the repair shop and back up to speed! I am so happy to have it back. I did manage to get 10 layouts completed which tells me I spend too much time surfing and not enough creating.

I have canceled my trip to the Crop for Kids this year. Unfortunately, it just will not work out this year. I am sad about it, but things always work out for a reason.

Kids are busy on the ice, already.... Seems weird to be at the rink in August, but they are loving it! Emma is trying out Ringette this year, so if anyone know of Ringette Scrapbook stuff, let me know!

Paper Storage

My parents bought me a paper storage cart for my birthday! It is awesome! It has 15 drawers and I can customize the labels for each one. It does take a bit of time to put together but it is well worth the effort. You can find it at any Costco.

1200 Photos!

We are back from our vacation. I needed a week to recover from all that traveling. I have been sifting through the 1200+ photos I took. Even I can't believe I took that many. I got some great shots and I can't wait to start scrapping. I have more than enough ideas to last me a year! I plan on using some Cosmo Cricket and Basic Grey papers. Right now I have Fancy Pants Summer Soiree sitting on my scrap desk just waiting to be used!

I think I have my mojo back, now to just find the time!

It has been fairly nice lately and really busy. I managed to get a few pages done in the past month, but it is getting harder and harder to find the free time! We are off on vacation next week which means lots of photos! I am getting very excited for the Crop for Kids in October. The class lists are getting posted and there are some that have caught my eye!

I have been trying to use up my stash. I have so much stuff that is screaming to be used! I have made a deal with myself, use up stash, buy more;)

I have been making some time to sneek a few moments here and there to get some pages done. I am hoping to get a weekend to complete some mini albums that I have had on the go for over 6 months! I really need to invest in a 12x12 scanner. The quality of the photos is just not very good!

It will be held this October in the lower mainland and the funds raised go to supporting the BC Childrens Hospital Foundation. Our middle child was a paitient at this hospital when he was a baby. It has a very special place in our families heart. I can hardly wait to get away for the weekend and crop for a good cause!

Our family voted nearly 1000 times last week! The kids particpated in activites and events for the past few months and most importantly they learned that a community can come together to work together for something positive. We spend so much time at the Terrace Sportsplex, I can't wait for the arena upgrades! Hopefully it will include heat for the second ice surface!

Sometimes I just want to plop some photos in and get things done. No thinking, no planning just click and go. Scrapblog is great for this. When you decide to create with a theme it opens up with preplanned pages you can just adjust to your needs. You can also create brand new designs with all the digital goodies. The best part is it is free. Of course you can get them printed for a price. I have not done that yet. These are some photos from last Easter. I have a bit of Spring Fever so looking at these photos with all the cheerful spring colours is making me feel very happy!

All about me

I have been working on a scrapbook of my baby photos. There are not many of them but my mom did write down the dates!

This layout is me when I was 5 months old. The boys look a lot like I did. The photo of my mom and me is one of my favorites. My son Robert looks just like her. Same eyes and nose.

I really enjoy working with older photos. It is nice to see a glimpse into the past.

365 Days....not going to happen

The new craze on the web seems to be trying to scrap a photo of each day in 2009. Well, it is January 7th, I have yet to take any photos. The more I think about it, I don't really want to. This year I will take the pressure and guilt off of me and just keep the memories of what moves me and makes me feel happy. To take a photo because everyone else does it, is not really going to matter to me later in life. There is so much going on in the world, I just want to appreciate the things in my life and value each moment. My word for 2009 will be Appreciate.

Did I meet my goals?

Last year I made these scrapbooking goals:

1. Get more pages completed out of my existing stash. - Sure did that!

2. Get more journaling done on each page. - I really tried:(

3. Step outside of my comfort zone and try something new. - Not Really

4. Go on a weekend Crop with my friends. - I wish, but I did finally crop with Lorraine!

5. Try, to spend less money this year. (not going to happen, but it is a good idea!) - It did happen, but considering how much I really did spend, I need to work on this one more.

I am going to keep these goals for 2009. There is still room for improvement!

E is getting ready for her first competition . Her auntie found the perfect music for her to skate to. Today she had a run thru so I brought the camera to the rink. Well, my camera batteries died! Murphys law:) Luckily I taped part of her practice so here she is. Just ignore the other skaters, the little slip and the practice wear.

A day in my life

So I attempted the Week in your life challenge by Ali Edwards, but I only made it one day! I took 45 random photos of the day and created a layout. I used thumbnail prints and then words that described how I felt that day. I am okay with how it turned out but I do want to try the Week in my Life and make a mini book sometime in the future.

Scrap Space

This is my antique armoire that I use for my scrapbooking storage. I like to scrap in my room at a small writing desk because the kids no to not come in my room. Not to say that always happens. There was the stickles and alcohol inks incident of 2008 that stained my hope chest:( I like to be able to crop with portability so this armoire houses mainly my bigger items and albums. All my embellishments are in totes and similar things. I would love to have an entire scrap room to my self, but that is not going to happen anytime soon. This works well and it is better than when I had everything in my closet at the last place we lived!

I signed up for a card swap at one of my LSS. I made twenty cards tonight, 10 of each design. I used my Quickutz to make actetate snowflakes for the one card and I used Basic Grey - Blitzen paper for the other. The fonts are all from Two Peas in a Bucket.I am happy with how they turned out and I hope the other participants will enjoy them!

Lunch Box Notes

I can't believe it is back to school already. I found these editable lunch box notes online.

I printed them out on pink paper after I personalized them. I have different sayings for each day. I hope my daughter will enjoy a little surprise from mom in her lunch. I need to cut them up and add some glitter to them. It is the little things that make her smile throughout the day!

Back from Vacation

Well, I am back from two weeks vacation. We saw each and every member of our extended families except for two. That is a lot of visiting. The kids had a great time and we managed to have good weather for most of the time.

For the first trip in a long time, I did not go to any scrapbook stores. Not that I didn't want to, I just didn't need to. I did buy some scrappy stuff but it was at Winners and Walmart. I bought a few albums at Winners at a really great price. They also had a ton of paper packs there but I refrained! Martha Stewart has her new line at Walmart and I bought a few things including the Glitter kits. Love them!

I am hoping to get back into the scrapping mode soon. I have some great photos to work with, I just need some relaxing time to do it!

Monkey Munch!

If you have ever seen the TLC show Jon and Kate plus 8, you have likely heard of Monkey Munch. I thought the name was cute and since I call my kids monkeys, we just had to try it!

The kids and I made some today for a snack to eat while we watched Bee Movie. They really enjoyed shaking up the bag and stirring the ingredients!

I think this will be a treat that we will enjoy once in awhile.

The recipe calls for Chex but all we had were Cheerios. They worked just as well!

Monkey Munch
20 min 5 min prep
SERVES 18 , 9 cups
9 cups Chex cereal (any variety) Cheerios work well! 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Put chex in a large bowl and put aside.
Place chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter into a quart-sized microwavable bowl.
Stir the ingredients together.
Microwave the mixture uncovered for a minute on "high."
Stir the mix again and continue to zap in thirty second intervals until it mixes smoothly.
Add the vanilla and stir.
Pour over the cereal while stirring.
Put combination into a 2-gallon, Ziploc freezer bag.
Add powdered sugar, seal the bag and shake until distributed.
Spread Monkey Munch out on wax paper to cool and dry.
Keep refrigerated in an airtight container for storage.

CHA Favorites

It seems CHA has arrived just in time for me. I went to my LSS yesterday and after over 1/2 hour of wandering through, looking at the products, I walked out with nothing. I did not even buy a piece of cardstock.

I can't believe I haven't posted in so long. June is so crazy busy with school stuff for the kids. I have barely managed to get any scrap time in . I did do a few challenges over at Scrap Central. I am going to have to catch up and do some more as there are some really good ones there.

I did this digital layout this week from my wedding photos. It is hard to believe that will be nearly 11 years ago! The journaling on the side is the lyrics from our Wedding song.

Digital vs. Paper

I have been doing a lot of digital layouts. I just can't seem to find the time to get my paper stuff out. Each time I try, life interupts. This Saturday I will be going to a 12 hour crop at Remember This Scrapbooking. It is always a fun time. I like to go by myself so I can focus on getting pages done. The ladies there are all so sweet and talented. It is nice to get inspiration from everyone around me. I have made up 24 single page kits that I plan on working on. I try to do photos that are not my favorite and I am trying to use up my stash. This weekend it will be family portraits. Not the easiest to scrap but something I want to get complete.

This is a digital layout I did for a challenge at Scrap Central. My little guy ate his first ice cream cone and it was too adorable not to scrap!

Cricut Owners -A must have

A friend on an online forum pointed me to this site this week. "Sure Cuts A Lot" is software to cut your True Type fonts on the Cricut. No special cartridges required. It works with your installed True Type fonts on your computer. If you are like me you have hundreds of fonts and dingbats! This software is going to save me money! I can hardly wait to try it out. It was just released this year and from what I have read online, it works very well. It can weld your letters together and you can even upload your own pictures with another program and cut those out. If you have a Cricut, this is a must have thing!

Mothers Day Tea!

My little guy goes to a great preschool in town. This week they had a Spring Tea to celebrate mothers day. We had real tea cups, which he loved, and he did all the serving for me. He took my order and brought my tea and treat to me. I asked for Iced Tea, I got Lemonade! We also had heart shaped scones, strawberries & whipped cream. He had two helpings. We listened to a great story about moms and then the children all sang two songs for us. He was so proud the entire time, it was adorable. He gave me a place mat that he made, he even printed his name! I also received a wonderful Nasturtium that he planted. I can't wait for us to find the ideal spot for it. It was a wonderful time that we spent together and I wish cherish it forever! Look, I am even in a photo for once! Happy Mothers Day!

My little Ice Princess

Last night the skating club had its annual awards night and dinner. It was a lot of fun and my daughter won an award for Pre Junior Skater of the Year! She is over the moon. Her grin still is on her face today. This is one photo I can hardly wait to scrapbook!

National Scrapbook Day Swap

Scrap Central held a friendship swap in honour of national scrapbook day. I created a coaster mini book for my friend Bonnie in Washington. I hope she likes it! Today my gift showed up. The super talented Jillian in Ontario created these 4 canvases for me. I almost cried when I opened them. They are truly beautiful! I popped in some photos of the kids and hung them up right away. I still need a photo of DH and myself as well as landscape photos of the kidlets. I think the canvases look fantastic the way they are but they are meant to go horizontally. I will switch that around eventually. Just beautiful! Thank you Jillian!

Basic Grey Acrylic Album

I managed to get out for a few hours to one of my LSS, My Scrapbook Place, and create this adorable mini album. It was created with a Rusty Pickle Acrylic 6x6 album and Basic Grey - Archaic line paper. I love how it turned out and it was very easy to make. I still need to add titles and a bit of journaling but I managed to get some photos in last night while watching TV. I am very lucky to have two fabulous LSS in town. They both have very different styles which is wonderful for all the choices available. I think I may have to take a few more album classes as this was a good way for me to actually complete a project in a short amount of time!

Scrap Central Design Team

I have been asked to be part of the Scrap Central DT! Three members are chosen for three month terms. There is also a monthly hostess. Hopefully I can come up with some great challenges and inspiration that will meet the expectations of our fabulous DT members from the past! This weekend is the Nations Scrapbook Day PJ Crop at Scrap Central. It goes from Friday until Sunday and the challenges will be lots of fun!

This layout is the latest one I have posted at SC. I cheated and used a quickpage aka. plopper. My dad found this photo of me and as soon as I saw it I just wanted to get a quick comparison back to him. I plopped in my pics and voila, instant layout. I think I will reprint the photos and do a paper layout as well.

My April CJ pages arrived!

In a previous post I mentioned the CJ group that I was in at Scrap Central. Today my April pages from Carla arrived and I had the perfect photos to put in right away. The album is looking so great right now! I can hardly wait to see it complete.

Altered Coaster Mini Book

I made this Altered Coaster Book yesterday. It is for a gift exchange to celebrate National Scrapbooking Day in May. This book is about Indulge Yourself. My hope is that my friend will be able to go through out her life and punch out photos and images from her life to give a snapshot into her favorite things.

I used 9 - 3 1/2 inch coasters
4 sheets Coordinating Paper - Rob & Bob Studio
1 Large Flower
10 Eyelet
Ribbon
Adhesive
Ink
White Cardstock
9 Metal Ladybug Embellishments
Cropadile
1 1/8 Square Punch
Cricut - George Cartridge
Ring Clip

Cut out 18 3 1/2 inch circles with the Cricut.

Adhere to coasters. Ink Edges.

Use Cropadile and make hole in each coaster equal distance from edge. Affix eyelet.

Use Cricut to cut more circles from coordinating paper, Adhere as desired.

Punch out Squares from White Cardstock - This will mat photos. Adhere as desired.

Affix lady bugs to each front of each page.
Adhere Large flower with eyelet to front of book.

Insert Ring clip through all pages

Tie ribbon onto clip

Attach title to front of page, if desired.

Have you had a chance to check out Scraptime yet? This site is run by Christine, who is not only a really nice person, but a super talented scrapper. She puts out video pod casts on tons of information for scrapbookers. Scraptime shows different techniques, the latest in supplies and gadgets and much more. I absolutely love her site and the best part about it is she often has contests for the very products she is showing and viewing her content is free! If you have a chance to check out Scraptime, you will not regret it. Great info and motivation for all scrappers!

Altered Canvas

Tonight I scrapped with my daughter and did an online challenge to create an altered canvas. I wasn't sure where to start and just went through my scraps and threw it together. I am happy with how it turned out but I think I will try to find a class so I can learn how to make ones like I see in Creating Keepsakes.

This one has fabric from the dress on the photo, mulberry paper scraps, hart shaped bling, liquid beads, K & Co. Chipboard letters and heart brads. DD really likes it and in the end that is all that matters.

She managed to get two pages done while I worked on the canvas. We also found some time to have dance party breaks and listened to her High School Musical Soundtrack! What a great way to spend an evening!

Do I have a scrapbook addiction?

Yesterday I took my daughter to get a new bike. What is the first thing I do when we get home. Tell her to hop on the bike so I can take a photo for Gramma. What is the next thing I do, quickly whip up a digital layout beacuse just emailing a photo will not do!? Do you think I have a we bit of an addiction:)

I have been wanting the companion book to the Big Picture since it came out. It was at my LSS today and I just had to pick it up. I have already read it cover to cover and tomorrow I change my life! It is all about a system called Library of Memories which you can alter to fit your own needs and wants.
There are three essentials and seven optionals. I am really looking forward to getting started and finally freeing myself from the guilt of feeling like I need to scrap all my photos in order!

Different type of Circle Journal

A group of friends at Scrap Central have a Circle Journal going on that we started in January. We are all doing layouts that are 8x8 and based on themes that each participant picks. We still make tags to send with our two pages but this time we are leaving the pages without photos so each person will have a CJ filled with their own photos! We also aren't mailing the entire book, simply the layout onto a different person each month. I have heard and participated in CJ's gone terribly wrong and we thought this way we avoid the frustration of CJ's not getting passed on in a timely fashion. I am finding this process way easier to do as I just need to meet a deadline once per month and mail off my two pages and tag. It saves on postage and hassles! These are the pages I did for my friend this month. I really hope she likes it:)

Taking Photos of Layouts

I really need to get a 12x12 scanner and printer. That is not going to happen anytime soon and until then I need to learn how to take a really good photo of my layouts. I tried the scanning and merging thing before, and it took way to long and did not look quite right. This photo shows what I have been doing. Standing above the layout and simply snapping a photo. In a previous post I had put the layout and an easel and taken it that way. I think I like that look better. What I really want though, is a 12x12 scanner. Someday:)

Earth Hour

I just signed up to the new Earth Hour website for 2008 and I thought you might like to take a look and possibly sign up too. Earth Hour is on 29 March 2008 at 8pm, and it looks like it's going to be really big. So far, as well as Sydney, there'll also be Chicago, Tel Aviv, Manila, Copenhagen, Melbourne, Brisbane and Toronto all turning off their lights for an hour in the name of fighting global warming. Inspired by fabrics

Lately I am finding myself looking at fabrics for colour combinations and pattern inspirations. I am really loving Amy Butler right now. Her blends of colour and fresh patterns are really inspiring me to look for similar combinations for my scrapbooks. I love the Nigella Stone line. It is just so cheerful and classic at the same time. I am going to look for some at my local quilt shop and see how I can incorporate into my next page I am creating. I love the feel and texture fabric can add to a page and I can't wait to see what I can come up with.

Our little girl just finished her skating season with performing her solo for the first time in front of a crowd. She slipped once but got right back up and kept going!

Finally...Some Upsy Daisy!

Last week someone posted about Upsy Daisy Designs and it reminded me that it was on my want list of papers to try. I have been searching for this paper line since I saw it in Canadian Scrapbooker last September. I just love it and the fact that it is a BC company makes me like it that much more. My LSS finally got some in last week and I managed to make a few layouts. The first one is pretty petals with the title cut out with my Cricut and the George cartridge. The second one is London Blush with some Oh La La Designs Rubons. I like the way these ones both turned out.

AMM Urban Vituri Tote

This past January I bought myself a new scrapbooking tote. I was tired of packing, unpacking and repacking for each crop. The big storage bins I was using just took up too much room. I searched all through the web and looked at my LSS. Some just seemed too flimsy or entirely too large. I finally settled on the AMM Urban Vituri Tote in Raspberry. I was going to order black but I just could not resist the pink. It matches my Blossom Arccivo! I also bought the matching handbag which I also love. I am happy with the tote. It fits all my stuff in perfectly and it is very sturdy. The handbag already has a tear in the lining I need to repair. I find that annoying but overall the quality is fine. Loving my Pagemaps!

There are only a few things I must have when I scrap. Cardstock, glue, photos, a paper trimmer and my Pagemaps! I found Becky Flecks website a few years ago and I have been hooked ever since. I find that even if I do not replicate the sketch, it puts me on a path to make my pages look the way I want. I print off my pagemaps each month and put them in a binder. Imagine my delight when I found our she is having her very own book come out this month. I am so excited to get the book I can hardly wait.

Online Crops

This weekend was the Spring Online Crop at Scrapcentral . I have been so busy with life that I was ony able to devote a few hours this weekend. The other ladies rocked the gallery! It is so inspiring to see other takes on a theme or challenge. I managed to get a few digital layouts done, which was fun. I wish I would have been more prepared for paper scrapping since the challenges were great. I used some great free kits from Shabby Princess and Two Peas in a Bucket.
